Driver's License Requirements

What is required for someone under 18 to get their drivers license?

To get your beginner's permit, you must be 15 and successfully pass the SC DMV written test and the vision test. After receiving your beginner permit, you can begin driver training. The SC DMV requires 8 hours of classroom and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction with a certified driving instructor. Once this training is complete and you have had your permit for 181 days, you can take the road test to get your license.

Parents must attest that they have given their child a minimum of 40 hours of practice, including 10 hours of night-time driving, and the student must be in good standing with their local school.
